Identity and Place in Contemporary Art

Welcome!

An exploration of ideas and issues about art, identity, and place and how these concepts have been studied, developed, and transformed by contemporary artists. Through the artwork and words of twenty-first-century artists, you’ll learn to weave ideas and issues about place and identity into your own art teaching. Art:21—Art in the Twenty-First Century, which aired on PBS in Fall 2001, is a companion resource for the course. In addition, readings, interactive discussions, and an online artist index are available for you to conduct your own inquiry.
